Nicholas Yoo is a violinist studying with Elizabeth Chang in the Pre-College Division at the Juilliard School. He is the prize winner of numerous music competitions such as the DePaul Concerto Festival for Young Musicians, Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition, Camerata Artists International Competition, and the Queensboro Symphony Concerto Competition and was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, and the Royal Albert Hall.
He has participated in masterclasses with violinists Daniel Phillips, Ani Kavafian, Phillip Setzer, and Bayla Keyes. Nicholas has spent his summers at the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival in Burlington, Vermont and the Brancaleoni International Music Festival in Piobbico, Italy. This summer, he will be attending the National Youth Orchestra 2 (NYO2) where the orchestra will be performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City and New World Center in Miami, Florida.
He debuted in 2015 with the Queensboro Symphony Orchestra and recently performed as a soloist with the Oistrakh Symphony in Chicago, Illinois under the baton of Maestro Mina Zikri.
As an avid chamber musician, he has participated in the New York Youth Symphony Chamber Music Program as well as performed frequently with his string quartet at the Juilliard School. Orchestrally, he was selected as concertmaster of the Pre-College String Ensemble and the Pre-College Symphony.
Additionally, Nicholas frequently performs music for his community through outreach concerts to promote appreciation and love for music in the younger generations.
Besides music, he enjoys creative writing, hanging out with friends, and trying out new cuisines from different cultures while traveling across the world.
